text wrap CSS - 3/5/2007 13:17:43
OK, so I have been wrapping my text around irregular pictures for some time now, thanks to the ideas contained in This site about text wrap. Cool stuff there! Now, I have a picture that I want to have centered on the page, and the text wrap around both sides of it. Is this currently possible in a single-column format?

I thought about making a 2-column page, splitting the image in half, and using this same technique, but the rest of my site is all 1 column and as cool as the effect would be it wouldn't be worth the discontinuity, especially since this is the main page I'm looking at.

I really don't think you can do this and until the W3C approve a float middle or a centre, you're stuck with left and right which is probably a good thing as IE can't get those right.

Actually, it can be done but you need a brain the size of a planet like Stu has. I had a feeling that if it was anywhere it would be on his site, and if it hadn't been I was going to challenge him to find a way.

It doesn't validate but I doubt if he's checked it as he's more concerned with pushing the boundaries, you might be able to get it to validate. Assuming of course you can figure out how it works. Have fun

Oh Lord I've just worked it out. Yikes. Are you really that desperate?

I did check his site, but didn't find it immediately. Thanks for finding it for me!

Now, I'm probably not that desperate, but I haven't looked at it yet.

I have a feeling that give me a few minutes and I will say the exact same thing as I normally do when perusing his site-- "it'd be cool, but..." :)

Have come to the conclusion in his case that it is not a simple matter of brainpower, or willpower, but superpowers. :)

Rest easy in the knowledge that it's too hard to read with an image in the middle anyway. People wouldn't know whether to try to read across the image or down the text column on either side.
