65536 limitationon drop down? - 3/8/2007 12:17:38
I have a drop down that displays all of our inventory master data using access 97...when the query is run that houses the data, it displays 66794 records. When I go to the drop down, it stops displaying at the 65536 record...it appears there are a bunch of white spaces after that. Anyone know why this is or how to correct it?

Hehe, I didn't create it...it was made about 7 years ago or so.

It lists every part number we have...they start typing and it narrows down on the list until they can select it. At that time it puts data in other fields.

I found the max to be that number in a combo box in access. I found some code that will take the search string and only search after one character is entered, which will take it from 65k down to about 100 or so...so that should work :)

There is the link I found. If anyone else has any suggestions, please give me to me! :)

Its the kind of thing that AJAX would be good for, but yes, I would use a criteria to define smaller subsets. The code for displaying that many options would be over a megabyte surely! :)
