Hi guys

I began my journey in this forum asking a similar question regarding FP. This time the question os regarding Expression.

Has any DW user downloaded Expression? and if so, how much more difficult (or less difficult) is it to learn Expression when compared to DW and or FP?

If you're used to FP then I'd say EW is the easier transition of the two but if you're using a lot of php then go for DW as EW is not funny in that department.

i donwloaded it and quite liked it. depends really on what you know already and how easy you find it to learn new stuff. i think most software returns the effort you put into learning it. once you overcome any initial obstacles/learning curve you find it was well worth it, IMO.

I usually try ot stick with DW for PHP. Absolutely right on that. I used FP for a while. Let me see how I do. Do you think there any issues with installing Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0?

With some dedication, I don't think there would be any trouble learning either program. I would say EW is easier to learn than DW, even without knowledge of FP, but that doesn't mean I think EW is a better program than DW.

I haven't used EW with the .net integration, but i've read that it is integrated pretty well with Visual Studio.

If you build in ASP/.NET, EW is a great upgrade, if you do PHP, then DW is the best option.

I still find FP 03 the best WYSIWYG in terms of ease of use and time. DW is great, it has loads of features, but I've found that it is still quicker to build an entire site in FP03 than DW. The FP navigation and templates save sooo much time, as well as the easy to implement search/counter/forms/etc, DW and EW just don't have it.

I agree with you on the FP 03. You're avsolutely right. Although I don't use templates (and I should) the ease of FP is outstanding. I basically use it just as a backup since some clients had their original sites built with FP and like the flexibility of accessing the sites and making minor updates. I call them weekend webbies. Most times they just mess things up!

My major concern about installing EW is the fact that it has conflicted with FP in some cases. If it affects my FP. I am in trouble since I am using it for a few customers. Any more feedback on it? Was it a problem of the Beta alone?

If you use more PHP I'd go with DW my favorite. Now if your going to do ASP.NET 2.0 stuff go with EW. ASP.NET is not good old ASP. Even though EW has some great drag and drop tools when you do need to go into code it is a whole diffrent world. Not trying to scare anyone, but its tough learning.

Both work on mine just fine together. A couple weeks ago though moved all stuff over to EW. I like using EW much more than FP. Helps me with my poor CSS, and I like how it acts overall and the layout better.

Not a single hiccup anywhere... yet. I don't use DRW or DWT or whatever it is called. I do all the backend stuff, ASP and DB, by hand, and use FP, and now EW, for the front end stuff.

Nope, pretty straight forward.

The only reason I had FP/EW problems was because I had the beta and it expired, when I uninstalled it, it did something nasty to FP. Other than that they both ran together no problems.

I've found a way round the php problems. You can use EW to work with it but when you've finished, you have to save the file, then, get yourself a copy of the freebie editor UniRed. Open the file in that and do File>Save As>. In the file types it will be set to UTF-8 (BOM) choose UTF-8 and save. You can then upload and you're good to go. Why they can't offer that as an option in EW Lord only knows, not hard is it.
