newbie to FP & forum - hyperlink question - 3/21/2007 11:51:28
HI and Thanks for being there to help! My question is simple, I hope, I am a complete newbie to FP 2003.

I am creating a hyperlink to insert a pdf to a page in my website and am doing something wrong. After creating the hyperlink, saving, view remote, publish, I go out on the web and my link says ...404 not found...Can you please direct me to some help for real newbies? Cannot find my answer on Microsoft help. Or perhaps recommend another website for help for the inexperienced? Thank you!

If this >> http://redc.com/Word-docs/Directions to REDC.pdf << is in fact the correct path to the pdf try moving it to a new folder called pdfs and naming it directions_to_redc.pdf. Some servers don't like it when you have spaces, hyphens and/or caps in the path.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate this help! okay, there is NOT a folder called WORD docs in my FP 2003. You are correct, I believe the 'path' is incorrect. What is a correct path? I have saved a screenshot of what I am doing but cannot 'paste' it here. Can I email it to you?

thank you so much

In FrontPage, open your web. Click on the New Folder icon at the top of the Folder List. Name your folder "word" or "documents" or whatever. The click on the folder that you have just created and choose Import from the File Drop down menu. Click on Add File on the dialog box. Browse to the .pdf, .doc, .xls, etc. and follow your nose. Finally on your page that you want to create the link, type the words for your link, highlight them and click on the Insert Hyperlink icon, or just Ctrl + K.

Good luck!
