Canadian web hosting - any comments? - 3/31/2007 13:28:50
I'm looking for a dependable, well supported web hosting service for a non-profit organization based in Mississauga, Canada. I am considering Host Papa, Netfirms and vistaPages. Anyone have any experience with any of these . . . good or bad? I would really appreciate your feedback. Regards . . . Doug Watson

A lot of people will look for hosting in their specific city - this isn't always the best way to go about finding a host though. The best thing to do is find out where your clients/visitors will be (all over Canada, or Canada/USA, etc..), and then find a host that is quickest for those areas (this might not be the host that is closest to where you are located). What kind of package are you looking for? How much space do you need for your website? Do you want a reseller plan? What kind of website are you hosting? Would you rather pay a little more and have greater quality/support? Or do you just need something to put your site online?

Thanks for your reply. This is for a non-profit volunteer organization, based in a small local area. I agree that a local host would probably be best. We're looking for a low-cost solution, but not at the expense of support! We had one bad experience a few years ago with a hosting company that would not admit their servers had been hijacked. We had all kinds of cross scripted garbage and no support. I was hoping someone had had experience with any of the three options I listed. Our needs are pretty basic . . . about 20 email accounts, 2 mySQL databases, ability to run PHP scripts, FrontPage support. Regards . . . Doug

Thsi is a company I deal with... And no issues... They are a local company in Newfoundland, but their servers are in the US and I think Canada. I have used them for several projects and have not had an issue: http://www.affordablehosting.ca/packages.php Basic Package would probably be ideal for you. Steve

Hello! I am hosted now by lunarpages.com I think it's a good host company. I chose basic plan which include 350 gb of place & 3 gb of traffic. One year with the free domain name cost me about 100 $. They have great and quick support. I also can recomend you hostmonster.com It's cheaper than lunarpages but I have yet no deal with them.
