FP User -- Switching to Dreamweaver -- realistic? - 4/12/2007 14:17:57
I have been asked to do some paid web upkeep...however they would like for me to use Dreamweaver. My colleague has offered training and mentoring from their official webmaster and will even provide the software to use. I am only used to Front Page and Adobe Photoshop in doing web design, and I have very, very little programming experience. I've not even looked at Dreamweaver...will I be able to transition fairly easily? I am a quick learner, but I do not want to get myself into something overwhelming. As a stay-at-home mom, I don't have hours upon hours to learn something new. Can I learn as I go along? Thanks! Heidi

It is doing the same things Front Page does (though I agrue it does them much better) - just laid out differently - once you find where things are, its a breeze. give you an example.... suppose you have some text that you want to make a link to another page in your web - you hightlight the text, then at the bottom of DW is a 'properties section' in there is a little 'link circle' - you press the left button of your mouse....drag it the the file list on the right and scroll down the list, stopping at the paqe you want a link to. DONE

Thank you! That helps a lot. I figure with this amazing forum that has done so much for me while working with Front Page, I'll have a lot of support throughout the process!

After starting out with FP, and using it for quite awhile, I still think that FP is a lot easier to use than DW. I use DW more often now, but occasionally do FP work. If you care about standards and the quality of the code, then FP isn't good at all.
