Hide a Print Button - 4/15/2007 10:56:34
I have a print button on a web page. Is there a way to hide this button when the page prints?

Thanks.

If you go back to your previous thread headers and footers and look at the reply that Tailslide gave you then that is how you would remove the print button also.

Looks like it's time that you learned to use CSS. :)

You're welcome :)

You will enjoy CSS, honest...after you have got to grips with cleaning away all the unnecessary FP code that is! The process also helps you to learn html if you haven't already done so.

Using CSS with Frontpage

I was able to hide the print button using CSS, (thanks) however, the same print stylesheet would not hide the header and footer. I looked at the code on the page Frontpage created and noticed that there is no reference to a header and footer.

You really should not have multiple threads going, but as you are here I'll answer here. I tried to affect print headers and footers last year for a particular project and found out that it was impossible as yet. I am presuming that you are referring to the printer's headers, footers and margins which are under the user's control and normally shouldn't be over ridden. I got this far,

quote:

"Note that these headers and footers, although specified by the browser and usually configurable through user preferences, are not part of the Web page itself and therefore are not controllable by CSS. In CSS terms, they fall outside the Page Box [CSS2.1 Section 13.2]."

"In conclusion, if you want CSS-controlled print headers and footers, you'll need to wait until browsers start to offer experimental support for the CSS3 Paged Media Candidate Recommendation. It could be several years before IE offers support for this CSS3 module, if it ever does."

Sorry about the multiple threads. I thought these were two separate issues. Thanks for the responses.

They are separate issues. The page header and footer are nothing to do with css whereas the print button is.

Caz's comment was due to this

Which was answered in the other thread. It gets a bit complicated and people get a bit fed up if they've answered something in one place and then find somebody else is dealing with/has dealt with the same thing. They kind of feel they've wasted their time.

If you don't understand something keep plugging away in your original thread until it becomes clear. People are happy to help and will stick with you.

Actually I was referring to the printer's settings, not the web page "headers and footers", ie. things like urls , margins or page numbers and in the thread that I referenced above this was not covered.

I am unaware of any other thread that the OP may have going, therefore did not see your reply.

Yes that's what the other thread was about. Stopping the details from appearing at the top and bottom of the page which can't be done.

There was some confusion over there as everyone assumed it was the web page header and footer that was the problem.
