transplant -> publisher pro silver? (4/24/2007 6:51:43)

I am currently working on my first website. It will be a website for the small community that I live in.

I am currently using a program called Publisher Pro. I'm trying to make logos, templates, you name it, but everything I make looks awful.

Is it just me, or does this program totally suck?
How does everybody get/make such beautiful graphics?
Where can I get some neat free templates?
I am currently using frontpage 2002 if that helps

thank you so much for any help you can give me

Have you tried Google?

Remember Free = "You get what you pay for"

Welcome to Outfront. For starters, Publisher Pro is a Desktop Publishing program it's not a graphics package. It's meant to produce brochures and letterheads not web graphics.

What you need to do good web graphics:

A good graphics package. Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop Elements are reasonable prices, the Gimp is free but they all have a bit of a learning curve.

Flair. If you're not the designer type then no matter what you produce it'll never look good, that's why there are designers who charge good money.

Experience. We haven't always churned out decent imagery, it takes practice.

A good camera to take arty shots for use on web pages or membership of somewhere like iStock Photo where you can buy images very cheaply for use on your site.

Training always helps too. See if there's a design and graphics course near you.

There are some free templates on my web site (right hand links list) but you'll still have to sort out suitable graphics.
