No problem playing DVD's on both laptops with XP Pro installed since they default to a OEM Dell media player.

Custom built desktop machine with XP Pro / Media Player 10 installed is, however, calling for a (fee-based, naturally) "Windows DVD Decoder" otherwise no joy.

Cost-free (if possible) solution anyone?

may be something there.

VLC player will play pretty much any media file

Jaybee,

The so-called "free" decoders want beacoup info including YOUR phone number so I'm springing for the Sonic DVD Decoder at: http://www.sonic.com/products/Consumer/CinePlayer/Decoder/quicklook.aspx?ccid=google&o_e25=Paid%20Search&gclid=CLfelL3724sCFSBhgQodx2HKWg for $14.95 USD (approximately 750 British Pounds).

Will let you know how (if) it works.

Thanks, as usual [:)]

Spooky,

Will try this one as well. As an aside, it do make one wonder, for cryin' out loud, why MS didn't include the Decoder with Media Player 10/11.

Thanks!
