stevens -> Error - trying to create a working form (4/27/2007 23:37:48)

I am trying to get a form working on my website. Whenever I try to create the submit button and use proper settings (On Local site) it tells me that server extensions are not installed - so I can't save the info.

So I log onto my remote website (the actual http address) in the Expression Web program and try to change the settings while logged on -- it works. Except when i try to publish I get the error:

"The local and remote webs cannot be the same location. Please enter a unique location"

The problem is that since Expression web considers whatever page is loaded currently in the program the "local web" I cannot publish the site. The actual remote web is loaded as the local web and in order to save it to the remote web I have to use the remote web's address which is already in use by the Local web....hence the error message.

How do i make this form? :( is there a way to make the real local web recognize that my remote web has the server extensions? I'm very new to this program.

Thanks for any help.

This tells me that you're editing live. Your changes are automatically live as soon as you save when you're editing live. There is no reason to publish the site to the server because you're publishing the site to itself -- which is already up to date.

One think you can do to cut down on confusion is Tools > Application Options > Uncheck "open last web automatically when Expression Web starts."

Now you can go ahead and open your local web in Expression and then publish to the server.

Your host may have a form handler you can use to create your form. Otherwise, you may want to go with an FP form handler. You just need to make sure FP server extensions are enabled.

Right click inside form > Form properties > Send to (requires FP server Exentions") enter a file name for the output to got to > Enter an email address for the output to go to. > oK. FP will warn you that this won't work on a disk based web and ask if you want to remove the email address. Answer "no' > save.
