Is there an FTP app in windows XP? - 5/7/2007 21:01:59
Hello

After some time of trying to avoid it, I am now cautiously making a foray into the wonderful world of CGI. I have confirmed CGI is supported and even figured out the "path to PERL" (aka the yellow brick road).

Now I am trying to figure out how to ftp things. I have always carefully avoided FTP'ing things because I was under the impression that it breaks the frontpage server extensions. Therefore I am assuming that it is best to use a FTP application other than frontpage itself, correct?

I did some searching and found out that IE can be used as an FTP application, but it doesn't seem to work. Apparently you have to go into the control panel and enable some stuff, which I can't do because I am on a corporate machine and don't have that access.

SO, does anyone know-- a) can I use Frontpage as an FTP without breaking things, and b) is there anything else that generally comes preinstalled on Windows XP professional edition service pack 2?

(I am hesitant to ask for access to the control panel, I know right away that access to download an FTP application would be denied by the IT dept)

In FP Publish you have the option to publish or FTP. It's still going to screw up your FPSEs though.

If you develop the site without using things that require FPSEs then FTP isn't a problem.

As long as you FTP pages that do not contain FPSE then you won't have an issue. Even if you use some FPSE on the website, you can still FTP the pages that do not contain the FPSE.

The only thing I use FPSE's for is the "search" function, so I should be ok...

we'll see!
