JohnLearner -> Are you hosted by iPowerWeb? (5/9/2007 17:13:08)

I need to talk to anyone hosted by iPowerWeb to see if they're having the same problems as me, as at May 9 2007.

My site at http://www.songland.com/ is up & running, but I am not receiving any e-mails addressed to me @ that domain (since 05/05/07). There are 4 sitting on the server, that I can read, but Outlook can't log in to download them. New ones just don't show up or even arrive.

And my FP Extensions don't work. So I can't even update my site! [>:] [:@]

I can post the content of a LiveChat with iPowerWeb about this, if that's allowed... But I need to know if anyone else is going through this hell: Are you hosted by iPowerWeb?

Thanks,

John.

Feel free to post about IPW all you want - horrible hosts need to have bad reps everywhere. Ipowerweb SUCKS. Yet another company that lures clients in with their high packaged plan specs. [:@]

As far as the FPSE issue, try to reinstall the extensions, then uninstall/reinstall if the simple reinstall doesn't work.

- This might be an ISP issue, are you using mail.songland.com as your incoming mail server?

Go to start > run > type 'ping mail.songland.com' and hit enter

It should show something like:
Pinging mail.songland.com [66.235.222.18] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 66.235.222.18: bytes=32 time=18ms TTL=53
Reply from 66.235.222.18: bytes=32 time=16ms TTL=53

Interesting enough - when I go to DNS Stuff, it says
quote:

Searching for www.songland.com MX record at l.root-servers.net [198.32.64.12]: Got referral to d.gtld-servers.net. (zone: com.) [took 44 ms]
Searching for www.songland.com MX record at d.gtld-servers.net. [192.31.80.30]: Got referral to ns2.ipowerdns.com. (zone: songland.com.) [took 34 ms]
Searching for www.songland.com MX record at ns2.ipowerdns.com. [64.70.61.131]: Reports that no MX records exist. [took 44 ms]

Response:
No MX records exist for www.songland.com. [Neg TTL=86400 seconds]

Details:
ns2.ipowerdns.com. (an authoritative nameserver for songland.com.) says that there are no MX records for www.songland.com.
The E-mail address in charge of the songland.com. zone is: hostmaster@ipowerweb.net.
There might be a problem with your DNS settings and that's why you are not receiving any emails.

JohnLearner -> RE: Are you hosted by iPowerWeb? (5/9/2007 19:10:47)

Hi, Bobby - how yer doing?

iPowerWeb, hmmm - been with them for years, but ... only one site left and I'm going to move that one on a.s.a.p., i.e. as soon as I've got all my e-mails.

They used to be fine - I've read that comment in several forums around the Net, and I agree. But they've gone to the dogs. This server problem started on Saturday, and there's no way they're gonna tell their clients before they do stuff. You suddenly realise you've got no messages coming in, and haven't had for days.

If they're moving servers (which apparently is the case), then let us know, for God's sake. It's not a crime.

I've read other posts from you on this. You said somewhere that they are taking on more & more clients and, in the end, it would become unmanageable. That's where we are, I think.

"This might be an ISP issue, are you using pop3 as your incoming mail server?" My answer is Yes, but it's always worked absolutely fine.

I've done the "ping mail.songland.com" thing - it works, but the MS-DOS window only stays open for a split second. Still, it seems to contain what you predicted.

They're working on it as we speak, Bob - I've just had 2 e-mails dated May 10 from Sonicbids.com, though I'm still missing 5 days of their messages, which are very important to me as a songwriter.

Hopefully, it'll all end well, but I appreciate your input. [;)]

By the way, I must thank you for your hosting service at http://www.mrbobswebdesign.com/ - really perfect. And, Folks, listen up: Bob's got our company's spam down from 100's per day to 14 in many days. He promised he would, and he did. I can seriously and thoroughly recommend his hosting service. (Our company's site, hosted by Bob, is http://www.handscombes.com/)

Thanks so much, Bob.

Regards,

John.

Hi, Corey - great to see you again. :o)

You actually posted your message as I was typing to Bobby.

As things are in a state of flux while they work on the server migration, I think I'll leave the DNS settings thing to one side for now, but thanks for letting me know. Once I've got my messages, I'm off from iPowerWeb ... never to return, or advise anyone else to! I guess that, at that time, the DNS settings thing will be automatically resolved, won't it?

John.

P.S. Going offline now - it's 1.20 am in Europe. See you tomorrow...

Hopefully you will get it sorted. For the ping command, go to the command prompt first.... Go to start - run, type in cmd and OK. Now type in what you want to ping and the window should stay.

I was able to ping the mail server as well, but it does make me wonder why DNS Stuff says nothing is there. Hopefully when you wake up, you will have your emails :)

BobbyDouglas -> RE: Are you hosted by iPowerWeb? (5/9/2007 21:15:34)

Hmmm, DNS Stuff is showing that it finally found it, maybe it's up and running now? http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/lookup.ch?&name=songland.com&type=MX

Well guys, I have 4 sites running with Ipowerweb. With occasional issues I never run into a problem with them. All worked fine from the getgo and still is...... I am in no way affiliated with them rather than it's my host. I was never let down and response and help was always great.

Maybe it is a matter of always blaming somebody else if something goes wrong......

Just get rid of all email addresses and you will never ever get spam again..... [:D]

I can assure you, jurgen, that I'm not the only one affected & complaining about this ... and blaming iPowerWeb. I've always been able to reach their LiveChat quite fast, but it's not easy these days. Too many complaints, I guess.

I hope all continues well for you, but me? I'm off! This is taking ages of my time trying to get my e-mails, and I have better things to do.

I wish you continued good service for your sites from them...

John.

I've encoded all the e-mail address on the site (as I have with all my sites), but once the spammers have your addresses, they have it ... and they keep using it.

John.

jaybee -> RE: Are you hosted by iPowerWeb? (5/10/2007 7:24:19)

I'm about to switch a host I've been using for years. Not because of any problem of theirs but where the servers are located. I suddenly have 32 hops to reach the darn thing from here instead of the old 12. The number of times I can't reach it because one of the intermediate servers has problems is nobody's business. Eight times yesterday I couldn't log in and when you're trying to develop it's a nightmare.

Helena recommended UKWSD so I signed up there for a client site. Those guys not only moved servers but shifted the entire operation to a new building over a weekend and I didn't see any downtime at all. Their planning was unbelievable. They mailed all users, a week or so before it happened and again a couple of days before, with the complete timetable and they stuck to it.

Tailslide -> RE: Are you hosted by iPowerWeb? (5/10/2007 8:05:59)

UKWSD are certainly pretty cheap and offer a reasonable range of products.

Where they really excel in my view is in their customer service - when things go wrong they go out of their way to fix them - fast. They are also very very helpful with regards setting things up on sites (problems with scripts for instance) in contrast to many hosts who just shrug and say "not our problem". On average they answer support queries within about 20 minutes.

I've been with them for around 3-4 years and about 90% of my clients are too as I recommend them. There's been issues over the years but they've always been very helpful and things get sorted out. Of course with my own sites and most of my clients' site on their servers on the odd occasion when everything goes bluey life can get very interesting!! I've certainly no plans to change.

- Go with a host with multiple bandwidth providers, and that has the ability to route you through the one with the least amount of hops. If you have clients in different areas, this is HUGE.
