Nicole -> Server Not Found (5/22/2007 6:18:58)

A guy contacted me this morning stating that he'd created his own website, has purchased a domain name and web hosting but doesn't know how to upload his site to the server. Would I please help him, could I give him a quote. He's local, so I called him straight away, asked for the domain name, asked for the host name, did a whois on the domain name and found that the name servers looked to all be in order yet typing his domain name into a web browser didn't bring up a default page, it gave a "server not found error". So I asked how big his site was, it's small, so I asked him to email me the website files and the email his host sent him so I could look into it and if was as simple as I thought at the time then I wouldn't charge him as I was sure he could upload the files himself. His host turns out to be one of those uncontactable by phone ones, and having delved into his control panel I can't see anything out of order - the default index.html file is there, so are test files that I've uploaded but when typing his domain name into a web browser I get nothing but a "server not found error". Typing his domain name and a file that I've just uploaded there still returns nothing. This guy only wants a quote for me to upload his files to his host under his domain name. I've told him that it should be very simple and if that's the case then I'll show him how to do it for nothing, I've written a support ticket to the host and haven't heard anything back in about 9 hours, and so now this "goodwill" exercise on my part is going to start to cost this guy money, money that I may not see as I haven't been able to quote him because I don't yet know what the problem is. Anyway, that's my problem, and I still believe the goodwill will be worth it as his site is created with MS Publisher and will need work in the future, I'm new in this area and need the word-of-mouth etc. but does anyone know why his site might be showing this error if everything is in place, paid for by him to the host and has been in place for about 2 weeks - therefore the 48 hour nameserver issue shouldn't be the cause?
