womble -> Faux columns for liquid layouts (5/31/2007 18:26:12)

This may have been posted before (and maybe I just missed it), but after reading and re-reading the ALA article on faux columns (which is useful for fixed width CSS layouts), and then banging my head on the desk for most of the evening because on a current project I'm using a liquid layout, I finally came across this...

[:)]

Ingredients
1 website (CSS layout)
1 graphics app
1 calculator (unless you're particularly good at maths)

Method
1. Assemble ingredients and read recipe
2. Following recipe, combine lightly whisked result of graphics app with grated pre-prepared website
3. Bake on middle shelf of oven at Gas Mark 5 for 30 minutes (just kidding on that one - don't bake your website, or the divs will melt and the closing tags will fall off leaving you with a soggy mess and invalid code! [:o])

NB: Ensure you are supervised by a responsible adult [:D]

Very useful - I've used this technique quite a lot (just finishing off a site with this now!).

Another link that might be useful - Sliding Doors technique for background images - This is for when you want multiple large background images sliding against one another for liquid layouts.
