Org. charts via FrontPage 2000 - 11/26/2001 17:07:00
Greetings,

I am using FP 2000 and I want to incorporate an organization chart onto a
page. Currently I have a PowerPoint file containing the actual chart.
However, I would like to know if I can draw the chart directly onto the page
itself using any of FP's graphical drawing capabilities. Why?:
1) For each name on the org. chart, I would like to set up the name as a
hyperlink which will point to a "profile" page for that person (containing
background info. for that person). I considered using a GIF file for my
chart and simply "including" that GIF file as part of my page, but how would
I actually isolate the names on the GIF file for the purpose of setting up
the hyperlinks as stated earlier?
2) If a user who launches my page does NOT have PowerPoint, s/he will not be
able to see my chart. Whereas, if the chart with appropriate hyperlinks was
drawn directly via FP, it would require merely a browser to be able to see
the chart and, therefore, the PowerPoint requirement is eliminated.

Please let me know if my "draw using FP" approach is doable or if there is a
better way in light of my concerns above. Thanks in advance for your help.

The 'draw using FP' is a method I would recommend avoiding. I am not at all convinced it is compatible with that many browsers, if any, and many of your visitors would not see what you would like.

Yes I would recommend using the gif file and then make it an image map. Very easily done in FP.

Insert the gif file. Click once on it to have it selected. Have the picture toolbar open, and one of the little tools, over near the right side I think, is to make a hotspot. Draw the hotspot and when done, a window should popup for you to choose which page to link to.

One of the nice features of FP is the image map.

If you need further assistance with the image map, let us know, and we can provide a little more detailed explanation.
