Install EW on multiple computers? - 6/7/2007 11:05:43
My EW trial has finally expired and I'm getting ready to purchase the upgrade. Does anyone know how many of your personal computers it can be installed on? For example, I have 3 personal computers at home. Would I be able to install a copy on each?

Also, with the upgrade, does FrontPage have to be physically installed on the computer to verify the upgrade or will it allow me to just insert the FP disk and verify that way?

Thanks.

I can't swear to EW but other M$ products are single computer licences.

Expression Web EULA

3. INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS
a. General. One user may install and use copies of the software to design, develop, test and demonstrate web sites you develop.

Word (2003) EULA

1. GRANT OF LICENSE. Microsoft grants you the following rights provided that you comply with all terms and conditions of this EULA:
1.1 Installation and use. You may:
(a) install and use a copy of the Software on one personal computer or other device; and
(b) install an additional copy of the Software on a second, portable device for the exclusive use of the primary user of the first copy of the Software.

Notice that the EULA for EW indicates that the user (one user), "may install and use copies of the software"... That would infer to me that multiple installations are OK. By comparison to the Word EULA which specifically indicates how many installations are allowed.

Both EULA's are clear about making copies of the software.:)

Thanks for your replies. Also, I found this comment on Amazon by a reviewer:

And the most amazing thing is, unlike any other piece of software from Microsoft, it does not come with the dreaded "activation" curse.
You can install it, then uninstall- and re-install it on a new machine as many times as you like, without having to "re-activate".

I'd still love to hear from anyone that has actually tried this and proven that it can done.

I'm in the middle of moving over to a newly built system (thanks again, Bobby for your help with that!), and have installed EW on the new machine, as well as have it running on my current machine. No problems with it running on both at the same time, and both systems are connected to the Internet, and both are OS's are activated.

I have the EW upgrade too, but I installed FP03 prior to using the upgrade, so I can't answer if you really have to have FP installed first. I would think so, since its an upgrade... but you never know. I'm sure there's a way around if so.

On my box it says that the upgrade is for licensed users of any MS Frontpage product. I vaguely remember that I had to reinstall FP03 for this to happen - but that may have been something else, so I can't swear to it.:)
