xirnibor -> internet explorer script error (6/18/2007 20:15:21)

not sure if this is right place to post. sorry if not. im using frontpage 2003 and when i try to do a mouseover with image swap i get that internet explorer script error. ive done a billion things from adware scans, virus scans, uninstalling/re installing ie6+7, reinstalling frontpage, checking settings in the advanced tab and even running a script debugger from the .js file. there is nothing wrong with the swapimg.js file in the office templates, and when i try to do the same function on another computer in the house it opens properly. i can post screenshots and whatever someone recommends, im trying my darndest to avoid a windows reload. please advise, thanks!!

The earlier page is most probaly stored in your cache. Try the keys "shift" and "ctrl", both at the same time, and refresh the page. This should pull aout the latest version of the page. If this doesn't work you need to delete your cookies.

If it's causing that many issues just use another method.

What's the effect you're trying to achieve?

xirnibor -> RE: internet explorer script error (6/19/2007 6:06:25)

its not causing 'that many' issues, its causing one issue. the same repeatable issue everytime i try to browse using the swapimage button. yes i could go in the code and manually type in swap image info or even use another developer like NVU, the point was to find a solution with frontpage. if no one knows please just lemme know without more replies like above. ill probably end up reloading windows.

No need to get testy - I was trying to help you find a solution *sigh*

I don't believe I even mentioned using another piece of software.

If you haven't already done this, try it-

Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Browsing
Uncheck these-
Disable script debugging
Display notification about every script error

Of course this will do nothing for a suspect script but will stop notifications.

I run FPCleaner which you can use periodically to clear FP temporary files and web cache files. This probably won't help with your IE problem but is handy for future use.

thanks for the replies. i did download and use that FP proggy, ur right didnt effect outcome. when my phone charges im going to record the steps im doing with the file, and let ya'll see it for yourselves. also it doesnt matter if it is a pre'created template like the one that will be shown, or a brand new one any time i try to use the swap image feature under format/characters and i hit that browse button i get the same script error. oh also those buttons u recommended checking i had already done from literally being on probably 30forums all trying to troubleshoot the problem. thanks, ill upload that video soon today.

Please remember the people on here are volunteers and they're trying to help you. They don't know what you've already tried so they will ask things that you already know the answer to, they don't, they're not psychic and they aren't having the same problem.

MS software contains bugs, you have hit one. I've had them in the past and it's usually a combination of that package plus whatever else is on your machine. I had a large Excel spreadsheet that worked fine on all machines except mine. On mine, every time I typed a 3 into a specific cell the entire machine locked up. No cure was ever found.

If you have as you say already posted this on 30 other fora and nobody has come up with an answer then it's pretty obvious that the fault is highly unusual. Now you can either stick with people asking questions and give them a civil answer, or contact Microsoft (oh no, they no longer provide FP support), or go to the Microsoft tech forums and ask there, or type the line in manually, or reload your entire machine.

Choice is yours.
You can either spend many more hours playing with this or accept it, do what you know will work and move on to something else.
