Icon to launch Outlook Calendar - 6/22/2007 12:44:35
I used to know where to find icons/shortcuts that when clicked would launch into the a new Outlook calendar item, new task, etc. But I can find the icons/shortcuts anywhere now. I'm using Outlook 2003 SP2. Any idea where to find them? Also, is there a way that I can have a shortcut that would launch Outlook straight into my Calendar (not a new calendar item)? Thanks, Andrew

RE: Icon to launch Outlook Calendar - 6/23/2007 12:59:25
Sorry, I should have given the "why", so you understood my request better. I already have a customized "today" view that comes up when Outlook starts. I give it a quick review and then go to my inbox where I will spend 95% of my time. However, I commonly need to glance at my calendar, make a new task, or make a new appointment. I can click on the buttons within Outlook to do this, but with a double monitor setup (and simply my personal navigation habits), it would be more convenient if I could just have three icons in my quick-start menu that would (1) open a new window directly to my calendar, (2) open a new task, and (3) open a new appointment. Can this be done? Thanks, Andrew

Well, I found the answer on the MS site here. Thanks for the help though, Andrew

I also found this article on how to create desktop or quick-launch toolbar shortcut icons that will open a new task/appointment/etc. without opening or navigating Outlook. If you create and put these icons in a folder somewhere then you can use that folder as a "new desktop toolbar" and get the same functionality as the old MS Office Shortcut Bar that used to come with Office2000. (If you are not familiar with adding toolbars or using the quicklaunch toolbar then press the F1 key from your desktop and search for "add toolbars to the taskbar". Review the two topics that appear.) The icons for your shortcuts can be found in the directory C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\FORMS\1033. I have included the basic shortcuts, already created, in a zip file here. Enjoy, Andrew
