Updating search bar in Frontpage - 6/25/2007 12:42:38
Hello,

I have made several additions to my site but the search bar is not finding these pages. Do i need to re-index the search bar in order for these to show up? If so, how do i do so?

Thanks,

Kathleen

AFAIK you shouldn't need to-- my experience has been that they show up right away.

But, this is just my experience, I never looked into it specifically. It certainly couldn't hurt to try it and see if it works, plus it is a good thing to do every now and again, just to take the "dead" pages from showing up on the results page.

To do it you do the following--

1) Make sure you have the live site open in Frontpage
2) In the tools menu go down to "recalculate hyperlinks"

Hopefully this solves it for you, if not post again-- surely someone else will come along with more knowledge than I and solve things for you. :)

Oddly, that did not work. Any other suggestions?

Only other thing I can think of offhand is to make sure the page titles or the folders they are in begin with a underscore thing like this: _

It's ok to have that in the name but anything beginning with that character is not indexed and that's by design-- it's used to "hide" things you don't want returned on the search.

I found what was wrong. Our sitesearch was in a banner page and i simply needed to copy and paste the code from the sitesearch.html page into the banner page.
