Looking for feedback on the general layout & appearence of our upcoming web development site.

A shopping cart is in design.

At first glance I wasn't sure if it was a gaming site or what it was. It certainly didn't strike me as a web development site.

Generally: kill the sound effects. Not professional at all. Flash navigation - rarely a good idea. Nothing for SEs to index and totally inaccessible. I also found on a number of pages thart it was necessary to reload the page after the initial load to get the navigation to work. You've got no plain text links anywhere that I can see. A forum on a web development site? An empty forum with many cateogies, all with no posts is never a good look. You also have a large chunk of something missing on the top of the "ready2buy" page. The "pro-themes" link takes you to what visually looks like a totally different site - there's nothing to tie it in with the rest of the site.

Technically: no doctype and 20 HTML errors.

Tailslide -> RE: ThemeKings (6/25/2007 16:27:09)

I'm not personally keen on the all flash main page - not very accessible without a mouse or without flash etc.

I think it would look better on the theme pages if the layout was centralised which it's not on anything except IE. It would be a worry to me that it's not similar cross-browser as I'd think that maybe the themes/templates whatever aren't either - if you see what I mean.

The TK themes look like they're all table-layouts and flash which won't help with the SEO. There's certainly a market for templates with snazzy flash banners but I'd be very wary about using flash for the navigation because of the SEO/accessibility/usability thing. I'd try to go for simpler, accessible, cleaner designs (preferably not tables either but that's my bias!!).

Sorry to sound so negative!

No No No.... I need to know these things. I appreciate all the input. I respect everyones input. Thank you! This will help me design a better theme. I have to agree w/ the opinions thus far. Themekings was designed by myself and two other designers. This is only one of three we've worked on. I'll certainly pass on your opinions to the others. I would appreciate more input however.

Thx!!! [;)]

I agree with everything said above plus.....

Some of the text is very hard to read.

On the Mac the text is a little too small

Check your spelling

Should be until you're comfortable

No it doesn't. It guarantees you won't get paid for a lot of sites.

If you don't ask for a percentage up front then never put the site live until you have the cash. Put it on your own server in a subfolder and give them the link to that to approve it.

nice for a games site but otherwise not right ;)

Donkey -> RE: ThemeKings (6/27/2007 11:59:56)

Why does your site make a noise like an AM radio under a powerline?

and what are "3 color websites"? It's not a print medium there is no extra cost involved in using as many colours as you want.

themekings -> RE: ThemeKings (6/27/2007 12:30:24)

Never heard any such noise in that regard. Has anyone else?

As for the "3 color websites" it's just a expression for a basic web template.

I agree. However, since it's not posted within our main site, all demo sites will be viewed through our site (ie. http://www.themekings/samples/etc..etc... ) with a copyright overlay until the site is complete. Also, a $40.00 deposit is required prior to our start.

themekings -> RE: ThemeKings (6/29/2007 15:00:08)

I made some tweaks. Please re-review. hehe

Donkey -> RE: ThemeKings (7/1/2007 20:01:54)

Still no doctype, still 18 html errors, and still looks like a games site.

Nice and bright though.
