I'm running into a problem with XP Home on our volunteer center's PC's. The Users and Groups utility with XP Home only allows "Administrator" and "Limited User". I don't want to have our students logging in with "Administrator" rights. But the "Limited User" profile won't allow some tutorial programs to run that I want the students to be able to use.

Is there a way to install the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) in XP Home or some other way to give user privledges somewhere between "Administrator" and "Limited User"?

I think Vista will so what you want but have you tried MS knowledge base to see if XP home can do it?

Yes, I searched the knowledge base first. But it is often quite literal. I found, "Note You cannot turn off simple file sharing in Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition." Okay, that is clear enough. But that doesn't necessarily mean that there isn't a workaround to give a user privileges somewhere between "Administrator" and "Limited User"? I was wondering if someone knew of a workaround or a definitive answer that a workaround did not exist.

Well I guess I did find a definitive answer in an XP Professional article.

"Use the Local Users and Groups tool to create and manage your local user accounts and groups. Local Users and Groups is available only in Windows XP Professional."
