Multiple domain names, one site - 7/3/2007 9:07:07
Good morning everyone....

I have a client who wants his 4 separate domain names to point to one site. He also wants the site navigation and banner to change on page depending on which domain was accessed. Make sense? Is there an easy way to do this? Should this even be done?

Thanks

There are differences of opinion whether that's a good thing or not. Personally, I do it on occasion and find no bad side affects that I can notice.

I do it thru the domain registrar by using domain forwarding. I use GoDaddy a lot for my registrar and it's quite easy to do with them but it varies with the registrar.

Hope that helps.

I am using GoDaddy as well.

So in my code would I have to use some sort of http header script to change the actual layout of the page to suit the domain requested?

I was asked to keep the same layout for all domains and just change the logo at the top to reflect which domain was chosen.

Oh I missed the part about the site nav and such.

Are you using ASP pages? You could probably use session variables to set the nav stuff.

If not, how about something like IsapiRewrite or something like that. Are you familiar with that? Maybe your host has something like it. That's a relatively easy way to take care of a lot of that kind of stuff.

I've personally never used it that way. I use it to rewrite the querystring data to get rid of the ? in URL's but I'm sure people are using it that way.

Hope it helps.
