bananamei -> sound problem (7/7/2007 13:51:27)

Hello all, new here. Hope I'll get some help. My dad changed our CPU about six months ago. I think he got it from an office who wanted to upgrade their computers. The computer's working fine, but the problem is that I can't play any music or sound. I tried everything. Plugging earphones instead of speakers, plugging the speakers in the three coloured holes (green, red, blue) behind the CPU, checking the sound card, going to device manager to check....everything I could think of. Trying to play media on Windows Media Player 11 will result in the following error message: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly." Will a "USB-based Speaker" help? (Got this advice from the Microsoft website.) Anyone has a solution to this problem? I'm about to go mad without my music :X Thanks in advance!
