bananamei -> sound problem (7/7/2007 13:51:27)

Hello all, new here. Hope I'll get some help.

My dad changed our CPU about six months ago. I think he got it from an office who wanted to upgrade their computers. The computer's working fine, but the problem is that I can't play any music or sound. I tried everything. Plugging earphones instead of speakers, plugging the speakers in the three coloured holes (green, red, blue) behind the CPU, checking the sound card, going to device manager to check....everything I could think of.

Trying to play media on Windows Media Player 11 will result in the following error message: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."

Will a "USB-based Speaker" help? (Got this advice from the Microsoft website.) Anyone has a solution to this problem? I'm about to go mad without my music :X

Thanks in advance!

Had the same problem a few months ago which was solved by uninstalling Windows Media Player 11, restarting, installing Windows Medial Player 10 then restarting.

Hope this works for you [8D]

Assuming hes changed a few things, have the audio drivers for the MB been reinstalled? Normally the motherboard (which may have onboard graphics, network and audio) will require the manufacturers driver disk to install the new info on (I suppose) your old hard drive.

Check control panel > system > hardware > device manager and see if there are any yellow exclamation marks indicating a driver issue.

Actually, I first started with WMP 10 and my mother upgraded it to 11. And both didn't work :/

Nope no exclaimation marks.

I'm sorry but I don't really understand your first paragraph >< im the computer idiot heh.

Hi bananamei

Do you receive any error codes?

bananamei -> RE: sound problem (7/9/2007 8:58:52)

Not in the popup that appears, but clicking "web help" will bring me to the Mircosoft helpsite and it says "you have encounted error message C00D11BA"

TJolly -> RE: sound problem (7/9/2007 10:13:46)

See if this helps:

C00D11BA: Cannot play the file

bananamei -> RE: sound problem (7/9/2007 10:32:56)

if its a driver problem, how do i fix it?

i went to microsoft update quite a few times to check if there's any drivers i need to install for the sound to work but apparently not. :/

Have you done what Spooky has asked?:

bananamei -> RE: sound problem (7/10/2007 10:54:01)

TJolly -> RE: sound problem (7/10/2007 11:31:29)

Goto Start>Control panel>double-click 'sounds and audio devices'. Click the hardware tab. Under 'device status' does it say 'This device is working properly'?

bananamei -> RE: sound problem (7/11/2007 8:16:01)

yup everything working fine.

but when i click "volume" tab, it says "no sound devices". under hardware tab, it says "this device is working properly." weird.

TJolly -> RE: sound problem (7/12/2007 5:57:42)

Go to Start>control panel>administrative tools>component services. Left click services (local). Scroll down to windows audio. Right click and left click properties. Under startup type make sure the setting is set to automatic>click apply. Reboot.

bananamei -> RE: sound problem (7/12/2007 8:56:18)

guess what, its automatic already..
