Windows XP Error Report - 7/19/2007 6:22:58
For the last three days my desktop XP Pro/SP2 system starts from cold boot with a brief blue screen followed by normal boot and an up system with no further problems.

I get the standard "The System Has Recovered From a Serious Error" screen with the following Error Signature:

C:\DOCUME~1\Larry1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERb16c.dir00\Mini071907-02.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Larry1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERb16c.dir00\sysdata.xml

Does anyone know what this error means and, hopefully, how to fix it?

Thanks in advance as usual :)

Hello Larry

Click Start>Control Panel>System.

Click the Advanced tab.

Click the Settings button under Startup and Recovery.

Remove the tick from the box next to Automatically Restart under System Failure.

Click OK.

The next time you have a serious system failure rather than reboot, your PC should present you with a blue screen of death[!] with an error message.

By posting the error message the fault can be more easily determined and the remedy found.

Right now I get, on the second boot, an "up" system. By removing the tick mark the next time this happens, if I can't resolve the blue screen problem, am I stuck at that point or can I force the system up another way?

Appreciate the tip but this is scary :)

I figured this out by closely watching/listening during the desktop boot process.

I have an internal drive F\:, an Epson Scanner and an external iomega drive H\:. Cold boot seemed to "look" overly long at each non-system disk (I could tell by the beeps) so, by the process of elimination, I identified external iomega drive H:\ as the culprit and it now resides at the bottom of my pond.

BTW, Volume Checking and System Hardware Device Manager checking displayed normally so these tests, at least in my case, were unreliable. Be careful out there :)

Hope this helps someone.

Roger,

... Let's see, umm, about 6 hard drives prior to this one. Maybe I should have saved them to bundle as a boat anchor :)

Seriously, I really do do this and, as such, consider my chosen disposal method unlikely to result in data compromise.
