Adding a "comment" form to Microsoft Expressi... - 7/26/2007 16:32:15
Hi Has anyone had any experience with adding a "comment" button on a blog web-page. I want something similiar to this page http://www.solardiy.info/ After every post you can click on "comment" and make comments. I want to do this with a blog. Like I said I am using Microsoft Expressions. Still learning to use it. Any help or thoughts/comments would be appreciated. Thanks Beau

Why not try WordPress? It's free, there are loads of themes or you can create your own theme. You can integrate it into your current site or just use the WordPress site for the static and blog part of your site (I use it all the time for clients' content management systems).

It looks complicated. FrontPage is so easy. When I downloaded the WordPress last night it didn't seem to have an actual program with it? Maybe I did something wrong. It came in a zipfile. I would rather use expressions...I am curious if Expressions allows you to do what I want. thanks

No problem. (just so you know, you need to upload WP to a web server for it to do it's thing - unless you start writing your own themes it's all done online via the WP interface rather than via a programme on your computer._

WP is a standalone program. You don't need expression for that. just upload to your server, tweak it and you are in business like the link you provided. No need to set up pages with expression at all.

It's difficult because basically what you're asking for is a blog - so WordPress, TextPattern etc would be the choices for that sort of thing. The reason being that without choosing an existing blog programme you'd need to set it up yourself which would be extremely complex. You'd need to set up a database to hold your entries and the comments etc. You could probably do this using any server-side language (PHP, ASP.net, Cold Fusion etc) but by the time you've set that up and set up security on the comments etc etc you might as well use an existing programme. The alternative would be to use a shout-box - a simpler system which isn't a comment/reply sort of thing - more of a list of comments posted by anyone. There's a load of shout-box scripts available on hotscripts.com. If you go through Google you'll probably be able to find a simpler blog setup than WordPress - here's the first one I came across: http://www.simplephpblog.com/index.php It claims to only use flat files rather than a full database. That's fine as long as your site is likely to remain small. If your site gets larger then it will slow things down and be inefficient that way. The alternative would be to set up a Blogger account and link that to your normal site - it would obviously look different but it's by far the simplest solution.
