Google and HTML - 7/29/2007 17:38:35
hi guys a customer just asked me this question quote:
Search Engines like Google make you verify that you are the owner of the website by adding something into the HTML Does anyone have any idea what she may be talking about? I figure she's been talking to someone who is feeding her some concepts she doesn;t grasp. I am guessing she is talking either about the certificate or the doctype. Does her question ring a bell?

dear womble it rings a bell. The question that idiotic client is asking me!!! LOL I have a feeling I am not going to work with her. It's a very inexpensive site that I was ready to create for her a few weeks ago but right now I am involved in much bigger projects. Also, when they start demanding a lot of idiotic stuff I know they are bound to be headaches. Thanks for the support and for the title. Yours respectfully Prince Mango

I have a google file and a Yahoo file added in all my websites. Google is something like googlea2a30ce659e64b0b.html and Yahoo is y_key_6403fbeeb894dc16.html (and yahoo actually also wants you to put the some text in their y_key_6403fbeeb894dc16.html file)

Yes, I know exactly what she's talking about. It's on Google Webmaster Central. Go to this URL http://www.google.com/webmasters/ and then click webmaster tools. Google requires folks to verify their site before they can proceed to other important things, such as submitting sitemaps. Quite contrary to being idiotic, this potential client sounds like she's on top of her business. Yes, people that are more up on things than you when it's supposed to be your arena can be scary, and this itself is often a reason to drop clients. I know because we've been dropped. I guess we spend too much time on these forums when we should be "minding our business".

It is the other way to verify the owner of site. I think google asks this only in case of webmaster tools mainly for site map and google adsense issues.

Also, Google wants to verify a blog before you can put code in it so it gets indexed on the natural SE listings.
