Looks like it's gonna be sweet. When I first saw the benchmarks Intel had setup for the previews, I was

sceptical. But now that indepented benchies have leaked, it looks like Intel got its groove back. Lower clock speeds and

thermal dissipation, but awesome performance. AMD is still going strong, but doesn't look like even the FX-series will be

able to stand up against even the mid-range Conroes. I'd like to get my hands on one of these babies.

'Dunno 'bout the very latest and greatest but I upgraded my processor and mobo within the last month and I got a Core 2 Duo 4300 with it. I'm quite pleased with it. It's only clocked at 1.8 GHz but it really is quite snappy. I upgraded from a 2.8 GHz P4 and the performance increase is quite noticable.

Independent benchmarks have been out for quite some time.

Conroe is old news.

There are two major viewpoints to these CPUs. Who has the fastest one, and who has the one with the best value.

Conroe wins with the fastest CPU.

Overall, Conroe has the best value, but AMD wins still in certain situations.

For low budget machines, AMD provides a better value for your money.

If you want to upgrade your machine to Conroe, you have to buy a new MB and new ram. You will have to weigh the costs/benefits to determine if it is better to simply spend more money on an AMD processor, or buy a Conroe + MB + Ram. Which option gives you the greatest value for your money?

When it comes time to build a new machine, I wouldn't even think about using an AMD cpu over Conroe, unless the machine was a very low budget one.
