image slicing in photoshop - 8/2/2007 10:18:30
I've got an image on my website from which i want to link to other websites. I've tried slicing it in photoshop

and entering the urls for each slice. but i can't seem to get it to save i save it as a jpeg but it doesn't seem to work.

i haven't really got a clue what i'm doing with photoshop, am i doing something majorly wrong? i've tried googling it but

i can't find anything to solve my problem.

thanks in advance.

Just save the slices into your images folder and upload to your webserver then link to it from there:

<src="http://www.yoursite.com/images/yourimage.jpg" />

If you've already done this then you'll need to give us a URL so we can figure out where it's going wrong.

Is slicing images still considered to be worthwhile?

It has always seemed awkward and clunky to me and now with modern high speed connections why bother?

I have never sliced but still used some fairly large images without problems.

Shouldn't we put slicing in the same box as frames, and using tables for layout, the one marked "Old Technology - Do Not Use"

Certainly, you're right, in the traditional sense, slicing should be avoided. It's still useful in certain respects - ie slicing background images up and then repeating in the CSS.
