Site Review: IT-Globalized.com - online freelancing web... - 8/15/2007 7:41:55
Hi All IT-Globalized.com is a new online Freelancing Website with about 150 freelancers registered. Thought I'd just put our hand out there and ask for some feedback on the design aspects of the website. I guess the following are my key questions I have: 1. Do you get what the site is about in the first 5 seconds? 2. If not, what do you think could be done to enable that? 3. Any enhancements you might think of to convey the essence of the message below in the first 5 seconds of being on the site? 4. Any general improvement suggestions? Oh, in case you don't get what the site is about; hahaha there's the concept in a nut-shell, I guess essentially what we try to convey in the first 5 seconds people visit the site: IT-Globalized.com exists to connect small and medium business outsourcing service providers regardless of locations, and assist them to develop a successful relationship, be it onshore or offshore, project work, contracts or permanent employment.

Hi there - thanks for the feedback. Note - there is a link in my signature, but that doesn't show up in the post even though I tick the option - probably since I'm new to the site. Also, given that the site is IT-Globalized.com, I would hope it is intuitive what the link is. Nevertheless I have amended this. Donkey, valid comment. However, we let the buyers determine whether the service provider has the right skill for the project. Someone might want a unit student to do their stuff if it's some simple market research like some of the projects in the marketing section at the moment, whilst others require a service provider of a higher level of skill. Who are we to say that someone cannot register just because they do not have 3 years of proven experience in a certain field? This is not about getting their money, as ultimately our aim is to provide a broad pool of service providers to meet the requirement of buyers. About 10-15% of our service provider base I would classify as serious and experienced. If you are so worried about the quality of the providers, a solution could be to simply don't pick the ones that are a worry ;). Some form of vetting is something we may consider implementing though. Something we will implement in about a month is a ranking system for profiles (i.e. Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum) for service providers who meet certain criteria. Skill verification, be that from ExpertRating, or from Certified Copies of for instance MicrosoftCertifications will play a part in that profile rating. Buyers will then be able to say that only providers with verified skills for instance can bid on their project. For the time being we still plan on enabling almost anyone to sign up. Donkey, does this allay your concerns, or are you talking more about a stronger screening process for sign-ups? I think there is also a trade-off in how strict we can be before we reach a critical mass.

Rangler, impressive - even after months live we haven't found that broken link - I'm very glad I posted this feedback post now:). Fixed that.

Cool - thanks for the feedback so far... We'll be doing a bit of a re-vamp, so I'll publish the reworked front page once it's up =).

Thanks for the suggestion - yeh, I guess it is very toned down and with a lack of contrast... We'll be putting up our draft revision for comments shortly.

what do you mean "2 months later....." :S?? We do have other things to do than just working on design, but now that a number of high priority features are complete we will be looking into some major revisions both of design, and addition of a couple of very neat features.

I still see two inches of horizontal scrolling on a 800 res monitor.
