Access Conundrum - 8/15/2007 14:19:02
I often get a couple of Excel spreadsheets that contain similar data and I need to compare them to find the differences. In the past I have pulled them into Access, created a relationship (all records in the first file and matching records in the second) and then run a query showing records from the first file with matching data from the second. However, I never get the same number of records as originally in the first file, there are always more!! This time I have a file with 62000+ records. I pull it into Access and pull in the second file for comparison. I have defined a relationship based on 6 different fields to ensure that I have an accurate match. When I run the query, I end up with approx. 75000 records! I have entries in the data fields for every record from the first file (the 62000 record file) so therefore I must have duplications. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what might be causing this problem and how to rectify? Thanks Steve
