Warning, neophyte xing.

From a lot of searching/reading, I think I'm gathering that, if one is kinda lazy (ignorant?), publishing/updating chores are still easier in EW w/FPSE installed. I know I spent a lot of time figgering out how to EW/FTP my first site up to it's subhost location and sure missed the ease of publishing with FP. My understanding is FPSE's will let me publish with EW a lot like FP used to.

If I got that right, then is there a downside to having them installed? I'm not using any other FP functionality any more. As far as I can tell, the only casualty would be my lack of development of standard publishing skills, which arguably will become a real problem w/in a couple years. But by then, I'm thinking something else will have evolved as a better choice for publishing for EW users.

If FPSE are installed, you can "publish" using http://www.example.com. Downside, some will tell you they are a security risk (which is another debate). "Supporting FPSE" is different than just offering FPSE and usually means two different things.

If you can use FTP, use it - and hopefully in the next version FTP will be better

Thanks for the advice Corey. Spose that's really the bottom line, at some point support costs are going to outweigh publishing savings. Here's to a brighter future!
