tgt -> Why won't a gif/jpeg show up on master page? (8/20/2007 21:48:30)

Whenever I place an image in the non-editibable area of the master (say a company logo that I want on the top of each page) it shows up as a red X on the attached pages. I have tried pngs too - nothing will work. I am using expression web on an asp 2.0 server. Can't find the answer in either of my text books either, so hoping one of you will know the trick.

Thanks,

Assuming that you have properly uploaded the image to your site (and even if you didn't) double check the path to the image. I have experienced occasional trouble with Master Pages not updating the path correctly to content pages. It usually happens with secondary DWT's though but it requires that I use the full url (http://mysite/images/whatever.jpg). Regretfully EW tends to rewrite the path to relative whenever you update the DWT so you have to remember to go back and fix everything every time.
I'd love to know if anyone has a permanent solution.

Thank you - that DID work.

I have had to change the target url in several of the links EW creates. Usually I have to remove the ../ on the created link. Quite annoying. I guess I should have figured this one out - thanks again.

Working in Dreamweaver, I've always had to use the absolute path for any of my template images. It's annoying as all heck but I've never found a better solution.

I usually use a virtual link:
/images/filename.gif
This way if you do change domain names, you don't need to change the paths since the path should remain the same
