Secondary sites to drive traffic? - 8/30/2007 13:46:18
Is it cool (from a google and others rule standpoint) to maintain a website for the sole purpose of driving traffic to another one?

Specifically, if I want to drive traffic to www.preownedweddingdressesDOTcom - can I put up a site at www.sellaweddingdress.com that talks about and links to it.

That, my friend, is the beginnings of a link network. I know your intentions are good, but Google tends to frown on those things. They would prefer you to drive traffic the only honest way they know... Adwords.

(my opinion is they will not catch you despite all the doom and gloom claims they make concerning spam)

It's a different site and a different domain linking to another site. Nothing wrong with that. But honestly, I would rather spend the time optimizing the original site to get better positions in the search engines.

Right. I know several people that own/run hundreds of those kinds of sites. I know of people that control thousands of sites.

I agree, but based upon many statements from Google's reps - I don't think they will agree.

Can you explain why you have this extra URL, and what you hope to gain?

Is it for the purpose of inbound links to your main site?

Are you using this page to "track" visitors for certain promotions?

thanks for the extra info.
