Adwords disapproved for Trademark infringement? - 9/3/2007 23:18:59
Being a reseller, we use manufactures names (Trademarks) in most of our advertising...catalog, website, Google Adwords. We've done this for years, same as most resellers.
Now Google up and "disapproves" some ads that include Trademarks, even though when you click through you land at pages promoting those branded products.
Google is telling us we need to get written approval from the trademark holder and have them send this to Google on their company letterhead.
Now, I ask you...how could a Ford dealer sell Fords if he wasn't allowed to use the Trademark term "Ford". Would they advertise saying "We sell the best cars and trucks in the market place"?...(let's not start a Ford/Chevy/Dodge war at this time).
When you think about it we would need letters of authorization from over 100 suppliers and each would have to send along a copy to Google...and they'd have to do this for each of their dealers...I don't think so...
Anyone else run into this problem?

Sounds pretty scary - I'm thinking of all the paperwork! LOL

I guess google is trying to make sure that only authorized resellers are using the trademark names. which makes sense....but wow, what a pain in the arse!

So good old high-tech google wants to cover their collective @rse with good old fashioned written letters. Pathetic! Think of all the Forests they will be destroying. I'm surprised they didn't ask for the letters to be hand written so they could get them analysed.

All they need is an email from you stating that you are authorised to selling the products for which you are using the trademark and you need to state somewhere "X" is the trade mark of "X inc.", and you are both covered. TV stations and other media don't need this sort of thing so why should Google. I think they should add to their slogan "Don't be evil and don't promote needless bureaucracy" Then practice what they preach. It is almost as though they are being run by quality control people (the slippery slope to oblivion IMHO)
