Aaaaaaaaagghh!!!!!! - 9/5/2007 12:03:08
After a very trying 1 1/2 days attempting to figure this out I must turn here for any possible assistance.

On a local intranet I have a number of (modded) DIW's for various purposes. Yesterday I began to make some major changes to one of these knowing full well that there could be issues that would have to be worked out. The problem is that for some reason the changes have effected many of the other DIW's. Note, none of these use the same dB as they were set up to be used by different facilities. They are in different folders with different data connections for each.
The field complaint interface no longer generates the field complaint list but if I put a log number in the search field it will display the correct record. If I want a printable version I can also generate that. I can also pull up the edit form and input data BUT get an error when I submit the change.
quote:

The operation failed. If this continues, please contact your server administrator.

The job description interface does generate the jobs listing but when I click on the link I get the same error as above.
The non conformance interface works exactly as it should. Listing generated, links work, editing and updating all OK.
If I generate a new DIW it works a it should until I make any modification to the DRR then it won't work either.
I have recalculated hyperlinks from FP
I have downed the machine running the intranet and restarted.
I've recalculated the web through the 2002 administrator.
I've recalculated the web using the MMC.
And repeated all of the above in different orders with no results...
There is an error showing up in the application log on the server but I don't know exactly what it means...
quote:

The description for Event ID ( 5 ) in Source ( Active Server Pages ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Error while reading default settings. please do regsvr32 asp.dll..

If anyone can point me to the "fix it button" or the "make it work switch" I would be very grateful. :)

Have you tried the debug trick to see if you get a different error?

I'll give it a go when I get into work in the AM.

So far this AM - one interface now working fine (of course it's the one I wanted to rework and don't have a pressing need for). One interface "almost" there. Still tweaking the DatabaseRegionStart stuff but having some issues with the edit and update function.:):):) With interference from other aspects of work this is taking a while but progress seems to be being made.:)
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Spooky.

Should have learned to do this stuff is pure ASP instead of using the DIW and tweaking the hell out of it...:)
