Videos on how Screen Readers Work - 9/7/2007 2:45:27
I subscribe to many RSS feeds, mostly dealing with Accessibility and Web Standards issues, one of them is on the WebAIM Website.

I've received a feed today that has about a dozen links to video casts explaining mostly about data table accessibility and also long descriptions.

Okay so I've just changed the title of this thread because I've just found another video about screen readers.

This one is mostly about Page Titles, Headings and Lists, but it also shows basically how a screen reader works.

William, the Firefox extension Speak It is a handy extension to use when you are designing your pages because not only do you get an approximation of how they work with screen readers, but you also hear whether your text makes sense and is readable. :)

You need to enable Speech in your OS - mine is XP so I did it through the Control Panel and chose Microsoft Sam as the voice. This is a TTS (Text to Speech) engine and I can't remember whether I had to download it from MS or if it comes along with the OS.

This should help if you have XP: How to configure speech on XP
