Webdings & Wingdings! - 9/9/2007 2:58:01
Webdings & Wingdings are such a great boon to ones graphics armoury and I'm wondering if there are more to be found, downloaded and installed. On my Vista PC I have webdings, wingdings, wingdings 2 and wingdings 3. I assume these came with Vista or maybe some have got installed through other apps (?) - anyhow, does anyone know of other collections that can be obtained?

Me too - but I don't use them as 'fonts' but rather I am talking about importing them into a graphics program and using them as vector graphics - then eventually to be exported as gifs for web - are you with me:)

Yes, I am with you. I just tried to do that in a vector program and it seems to work. However when enlarging a webding I got some jaggles. So maybe those webding fonts are not vector fonts?

what vector program? if you're using type (and not a bitmap) and /or converting it to paths then you can resize as much as you want without jaggies.

I use PSP but guess it works with others this way...

Open Word
insert symbol (webding of choice)
Copy

Open Graphics editor
Click on text tool
paste

In PSP at least, the webding then behaves like any other vector text.

I only recently sussed this when looking for a graphic to merge into logo.

Now - where do we get some more webdings & wingdings!?

Yes, this is what I've been doing and it's a massive time saver for many jobs - my regular favourite for creating a wavy line is the tilde - found that tip some time ago and it opened my eyes to fonts and webdings:)

Now where do i get some more... !!!:)

O.K. Rick, I tried your PSP method in my Vector Program (Serif Draw Plus 8) and it worked. No jaggles now. Thanks for that tip. The trick is to paste into the text window.

OK... alright... clever stuff that Google! :) What I was really looking for was recommendations - particularly of safe downloads and no royalty problems etc. - but I'll check out your results page - thanks for the help :)

It's a new thing called google it's only been around a few years which is why you probably hadn't heard of it. It seems OK but it is a bit early to imagine that it will ever replace msn search, it is too easy to use for one thing. :)
