Frontpage crashes - 9/12/2007 14:02:26
I note there is an old thread about this problem at http://www.frontpagewebmaster.com/m-186162/tm.htm#186162

However, I'm bringing the issue to a new thread to see if anyone has found new solutions.

The problem: Every once in a while, Fp2000 gets "confused" and starts crashing on "Save As" with a message that "the referenced memory (number) could not be written" etc.

Typically, in XP Pro, I have simply done a System Restore back to a date when Fp was working. BUT, I installed Norton Internet Security 2007 and even in Safe Mode it will NOT allow me to do System Restore (I've now uninstalled Norton and returned to the 2005AV version-- but the old restore points are invalid. I might need to wipe the harddrive to get System Restore to work again.)

So with Fp, I have well over 1,500 pages split between 4 primary webs (folders) under MyWebs. I have a top, middle, and bottom on _includes.

I noted in the old thread the idea that Fp does not always like the meta tags in the header section, with the possible solution to copy those, delete them, then save, and reinsert the header info.... that seems a lot of work. Another solution said to delete half your web and republish until you find the corrupted page... that too seems a lot of work. Also, since I *can* publish fine (I just can't 'save as', it seems a wasted step to delete files & republish.

Typically, I have found doing little things "tricks" Fp (for awhile) into operating well again.

I have tried semi-successfully before:
- recalibrating hyperlinks
- opening and saving an existing page
- opening a jpg through Fp to make sure it is associating the web items with itself
- deleting Temp Files & cache with Fp Cleaner
- doing a Repair of Fp

Well, none of these are working now.

Would it help to uninstall Fp and reinstall it?

Even if I wipe my harddrive and start over, I don't think that would guarantee Fp would "work" again, correct?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Lifes
