HDD recognition?? - 9/17/2007 0:46:31
i have windows xp. I just added a second master hard drive to my system. It's recognized in dos and in my device listing but under the windows (my computer) there is no second hard drive, no letter was given?? I've changed the jumper settings from master to cable select and back to no avail. What am I missing or forgotten to do??

What happens when you access Disk Management? Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management or Start > Run > Type "diskmgmt.msc"

in "diskmgmt.msc" shows "c" part - size etc and that it is disk 0 and that it is a healthy system. It also shows an unknown disk 1 saying, not initialized ?? What does that mean?

Do you have an option to "Initialize Disk" when you right-click on the one that is not initialized? If you don't see it on that area, look around for a way to initialize a disk inside the disk management area. Make sure you don't touch the C one, since that drive is already working

You have to perform a 1. Low level format 2. Partition the cylinders 3. Regular format
