access3d -> getting rid of mso-* and more (9/19/2007 15:59:48)

Expression Web keeps putting things into my code I did not consciously ask for. How do I stop it?

1.) For example: I high light part of a line in the design window and click on a style which I have called Normal. and EW adds,

"class=MsoNormal style='color:black;mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:
auto;mso-list:l2 level1 lfo1;tab-stops:list .5in'>"

There are lots of other mso- things added other places. Is there a way to turn this feature off?

2.) I type in an achronym, like BCU, and EW adds an extra span class, like it thinks BCY is a stock symbol.

3.) I type a place, like Greenland, and EW adds and extra span class, with something like a state name.

How do I turn all of this off and keep it off?

I have not had that problem fortunately. Do you have IntelliSense on (Under Tools - Page Editor)?

I had that mso problem, too, when I cut and pasted from Word documents.

@Corey-- When I looked at my IntelliSense settings, I wouldn't have been able to tell what to unclick anyhow if that were a fix!!! What a list!

@access3d-- Just as an aside, I use Word 2003. It assigns tags automatically to Place Names unless I tweak it. You might have something like that going on under the hood, too.

Never paste in from Word/Publisher whatever - always dump the text into Notepad and then re-copy before pasting into your site.

As far as the other problems go - I don't use EW so my suggestion probably wouldn't be too helpful - I'd say don't use the WYSIWYG option, always code in the code view, that way you should have a little more control. It sounds like an incredibly annoying problem.

Ah that explains it if you are copying from other Wod docs - I have that problem as well (well used to) until I did as Tailslide recommends

Thanks all for the feedback!

1) Yes, I was pasting from Word 2003, so that explains one large set of problems.

2) I think the second problem came from Smart Tags, which I want to call "Stupid Tags". If I'm right, they make the code unreadable.

I expected: <span class=eventname1> Braden River & Linger Lodge</span>

I got:

<st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on"><span
class=eventname1><span style='font-size:15.0pt'>Braden</span></span></st1:PlaceName><span
class=eventname1><span style='font-size:15.0pt'> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">River</st1:PlaceType></span></span></st1:place><span
class=eventname1><span style='font-size:15.0pt'> & Linger Lodge </span></span><span
class=normal1><span style='font-size:13.5pt'><o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<ul type=disc>

STUPID changes from Expression! I've turned off Smart Tags, but haven't yet tested the results.

I can't imagine Microsoft employees really use this product.
