William Lee -> Brickbats or backpats, let me have it :) (9/25/2007 2:34:50)

Hi, I havn't been posting for a long time in this forum. For a brief period I was quite enthusiastic in the database forum, esp DRW (FP)

I designed http://www.berithbpc.com and like it a lot, personally. What do you folks think?

Should I have gone the tableless way? hmm..

thanks for all inputs :)

Hi

It's quite pretty (although, yes, tableless is definitely the way to go these days!).

My main criticism is that you've messed with my right-click - replacing it with a menu. which is really irritating. It's always a bad idea to interfere with the way the user uses their own software. Either people don't use the right-click (in which case they won't see the menu anyway) OR they do use it (like me) and will be irritated by you forcing them to use another method.

Thanks Tailslide, your points noted.

If I can provide the usual functions of your rightclick in my contextmenu, would it be less irritable?

For you, I will work hard to incorporate these functions :)

[:D] Thanks William.

To be honest I'd say still avoid it because different browsers have different context buttons plus users can add their own to their right-click and might have it set up differently (I'm a real spoilsport aren't I!).

Try viewing your web on a 800 resolution monitor and you will see a odd effect on the horizontal scrolling.

Hi treetopranch

do you mean it keeps scrolling endlessly?
yes I see that.

Actually I am having the floating menu and context menu and seems superfluous thing to do, having them both.

I have to decide which to drop *so sad*

Tailslide...what is the cause of endless horizontal scrolling?

I suspect it is a image problem but not sure.

Tailslide -> RE: Brickbats or shoulderpats, let me have it :) (9/27/2007 4:11:18)

I think it's the floating menu. When I turn Javascript off the menu disappears but so does the scrollbar. I can't quite figure out how it positions itself - it appears to be always slightly off screen.

I've been trying to fix that for some time. Still clueless.
I wonder if this behaviour is the same for all floating menu? Know of any page with floating menu I can check them out?

Never used this type of menu but there are a couple of CSS versions that might be better than the old DHTML things.

Here's an article from the W3C on it: http://www.w3.org/Style/Examples/007/menus

And here's an article from the excellent Stu Nicholls with a version that works in IE6 too: http://www.cssplay.co.uk/layouts/fixed.html

Here's an article from Quirks Mode on doing a JS one: http://www.quirksmode.org/js/fixedmenu.html

The above link doesn't seem to pin at one position as claimed.

The one below is good. I like it a lot.

Yes it wouldn't if you're using IE - one of IE's many and varied bugs I'm afraid!
