VPN problem - 9/28/2007 4:54:36
I have four machines in my home office that are all capable of connecting in to my company server via VPN. Three machines were connected via VPN when I had a minor power outage affecting one machine. I restarted the machine and all seemed ok. However, it will not connect via VPN. I get as far as registering username and password and then after a while I get a 721 error message. However, the other machines that were connected via VPN are still connected and the machine that wasn't connected can connect without any problems. This would seem to rule our main server issues? and local firewall? Is there something on the local machine that should be reset? Any advice or guidance is greatly appreciated. Steve

You are not the only one that has had that error. I Google'd that error and found 42,000 others had it also. Here's one resolution: Resolution: If you have tried things other people suggest like rebooting, reloading hardware and re-installing the VPN or dial in connection, you still get the same problem. I would suggest to check the router settings and make sure TCP Port 1723, IP Protocol 47 (GRE) are opened. Also make sure that the router has the PPTP enabled and not firewall block the traffic. On the RAS server, check the DHCP settings. Don't know if that will fix your problem but you can google and find other solutions.

Thanks for the quick reply TreeTopsRanch. I guess my router must be ok because all the other machines connect via the VPN through the same router. It just seems to be something that has changed on this one machine? I did reset the router anyway and the other machines connect and this one still doesn't. The annoying thing is, this machine is used for backups. It means that I will have to build another machine to take on backups, all because I can't find a solution that is probably something really stupid when it comes down to it!! Cheers Steve
