As far as free .rar opening software goes (which I'm all for), just be careful to be sure that the software has the features you want. Rar uses advanced features like encryption. Some free programs may not support those features or be able to do anything more than open the file. If you want to create .rar files or use all of the RAR format's features, WinRar is worth the price. If not, go with a freebie.
