Work Tracking DB - 10/8/2007 5:26:15
Hi everyone,

I need help starting a project. I should be OK coding whenever I know the best direction to start in.

Here's what I need to do:

Each pupil has a list of coursework tasks to complete. I want to be able to track their progress and show who is behind etc.

Each class may have several pieces to hand in and each piece of work may be split into subsections with specific criteria.

For example

Class1 have a piece FinalProject. the task in broken into 6 parts, Part1 - Part 6. Part 1 is them broken down into specification, letter, design brief. Part2 - Part 6 are also broken down into smaller chunks.

I want staff to record the progress of each pupil - Complete, Needs more work, Not complete for each component.

My ideal scenario would be to click on a pupil, see their classes and know what status their work is for that class. Then click on the class and see the status of the Parts1-Part6. Them click on Parts and see the status of the component, ie specification etc.

Hope this makes sense. Any help wopuld be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Desi

Have you come up with your DB design, normalisation and such?

Have you determined which are the tables that are required? What data type for each field of each table?

Thats the bit I can't get my head around! I already have two tables releveant to the task. One is tblPupil, which stores the name, etc of each pupil. The other links the pupilID to the classes they are in.

I am not sure what the structure of the coursework table should be in order to achieve what I want.

I am not sure if this will help, go to http://www.ezhrs.com/ezCourses.asp and try out the demo and see if you could glean out from it the structure for your coursework.
