IMO -> Copy & paste problem (10/12/2007 8:27:57)

This may not be an Expression problem, and maybe WIN XP, etc.

When I try to high-light and CNTRL-C and then CNTRL-V to paste, I get a small orange square symbol which is totally un-usable to me. If I go back and repeat the cut & paste operation 2 or 3 times, I will finally get the actual text, photos, etc., that I wanted in the first part.

If this is an Expression "feature" can I turn it off ???

Thanks

Jim West

Where are you trying to copy from?

If it is Word - don't do it. Don't copy from another Office product. Expression Web focuses on compliant HTML and this would not be compliant

I copy from anything and everything. Once in a while WORD, but mostly news articles on the Internet. I also get the same little image when copying from my web site index software, not an Office product, "SoThink".

After seeing it, I can go back and re-copy and finally get the actual text. It may take three times to do this.

I have the largest private web site in Indiana, and work on it at least 4 hours a day, and it gets very annoying to have to do it all 2 and 3 times. I never saw it in FrontPage.

Thaks for replying

Try pasting it into notepad first (to remove formatting) then copying it from there and pasting it.

Sounds like a very good idea, as I usually need to remove formatting anyway. I will give it a try.

Thanks very much !!

If you are copying it into Notepad - then you are just copying text. You might try the Frontpage Cleaner and clear your temporary Internet cache.

But if it is just text - try to copy it into the HTML source code so Expression Web is not trying to copy the format as well.

Thanks again.

I also need to remove all the styles from the copied text. I just began to see these being copied about last week sometime. Never a problem before. I wonder if there is a place to tell Expression not to copy the styles. I am not fluent at all with styles, so I have to delete each one in turn.

Fp has Edit>Paste Special which does that, maybe Expressions does as well?

If you copy the text into the source code, it should just copy the text.

Also, if you go to Edit - Paste Text, you will get some options as well - one being Paste as plain text

This comment is appropos copy & paste in general.

My favorite Firefox add-on (extension) is AutoCopy. All you do to copy is highlight the text.
