HELP! how do I see elements that have been hidden?

I am using prototype js to hide some text on my page, it becomes visible when you click on a link. But in Expression its started to show up the text as a small square with a cross in it, thats all. Somehow I have turned on the js and cannot see the content of the hidden text. It used to show up on the page. How do I turn it off again?
