Yes, but does it tell us anything useful? In my view not, until it is refined and run again.

A summary would have been nice. You can gleem some useful things but you do have to dig.

I was not motivated to download it, perhaps sometime when I'm bored.

You have to question the point of it though, it's about what other people do, not what's right. I should imagine that a majority don't design to web standards, don't use a correct doctype, and use tables for structure. How is that information useful?

A survey for the sake of it IMHO.

It's like the survey my "trade union" (The Chartered Institute of Marketing) sends round every year about salaries, they then produce detailed info telling me for instance what a product manager should expect to earn in Essex. It is irrelevant to me in Hampshire because I know the local market and know what I would have to pay if recruiting, I'm not interested other than idle curiosity what someone in Dundee has to pay.

We are living in a society where information is continually collected and collated for no good purpose. (I blame the government) {:~)

that's a good point-- a more accurate survey would have been something like this:

What doctype do you use the majority of the time?

-xml
-xhtml
-html 4 strict
-html 4 loose
-prior version of html
-what's a doctype?

how often do you validate your site?
-daily
-once a week
-every time a new page is published
-never
-validate? What's that?

THAT would yield some interesting results, to be sure!

The survey seems to be more concerned with general demographics.

As a researcher who spends all day every day dealing with stats in my "other" job, I have to agree. Probably only about 25% of the stats we're instructed to compile and collate on a regular basis are of any use whatsoever and are used for anything important.

....oh, and did you know that 76% of all statistics are made up on the spot? :)
