need help with server decision - 10/18/2007 22:47:31
Hello All,

I have about 25 web sites hosted on a shared linux/apache server. Because of shared hosting issues for some of the larger clients, I need to go dedicated. As luck would have it I'm also at the same time setting up a new client who is using storefront.net and consequently I need windows hosting in order to have the asp.net, etc...

I'm looking into windows dedicated hosting and although I'm familiar with windows; I'm used to the apache/linux web hosting/fantastico stuff. The thought of moving everyone to a windows dedicated server is a bit frightening. Yet at the same time, it seems that with windows it should actually be a bit easier??!!

I've also thought about placing everyone else on a linux dedicated web server and then place the client needing the windows on a vps windows server which would at least limit the number of other folks on the server with them...

All thoughts/suggestions are appreciated!

Sharon

Keep existing clients on linux, and then add a windows based VPS. You might even ask some of your current clients if they would like to switch to your new windows hosting box.

We don't deal with windows hosting right now, and receive roughly 1 request every 3 months for windows based hosting. I hate the windows control panels, cPanel/WHM are awesome for managing clients (including resellers).

Thanks for the info...that was the direction I was going...until I found out that the VPS servers there are linux only...which means I have the choice of windows dedicated or windows shared hosting...just wondering if shared hosting will be good enough for use with storefront.net???

Again, thanks, Sharon

I see that storefront.net offers shared hosting but I couldn't determine if it was window or Unix.
