Spamming emails???? - 10/23/2007 6:49:05
Hi Guys

Basically I have a website where the user can fill in an enquiry form online.
Just lately I have been getting loads of sapm enquiries through this page (3000 in one day)

So I decide to make the users validate some of the text fields, which is kinda helping so far.
I have been told about adding a captcha where the users have to identify the letters before submitting the form. Does anyone else on here use one if so how do I find the code for it and upload it to FP 2003?

Regards

Frankie

I'd be very wary of using captcha - it can be extremely inaccessible. Personally I'd go for a question like "is fire hot or cold?" or "is water wet or dry?" Which is much easier for people to deal with.

If you have PHP on your webserver (and most seem to these days ) then Mike Cherim's Secure Accessible form is really nice to use. http://green-beast.com/blog/?page_id=71

Here's an article on the subject with quite a few really useful options http://webaim.org/blog/2007/03/07/spam_free_accessible_forms/ such as adding a field which you make invisible to users but spambots would fill it in automatically = which dumps the response into a big can called Spam!

If you don't have PHP and you end up having to use Captcha then try to ensure that you use one with numbers rather than letters and also that you have an alternative for people who can't read the captcha (poorer eyesight or no eyesight for example).
