Sorry, but Micros*ck lies!!! - 10/26/2007 16:14:43
I purchased this product thinking WYSIWYG sorry, its not evcen close, in fact its about as good at doing that is GB running this country...bad! Why do they lie and say that a beginner can use this???? Everytime, i try to set something in place.....its not! I have spent NUMEROUS hours on my website and when i go to check the alignment, it is all over the place! pity microsoft..... If i switch computers and try to develop the site between a laptop and my desktop,,,, forget it, it gets worse... some of you may say i need to code, but when i bought this poor excuse for a program, i was assured it was EASY.... does anyone have any answers to why this is happening????

Doubt if anyone can help you unless you post a link to see what is happening.

You said: "the alignment, it is all over the place!" What is not aligning? Your site looks OK in Firefox and IE7

You are attempting to use floating divs (named "layers") in FrontPage. When beginning to learn FrontPage, you are much better off sticking with table based designs, unless you're using the latest version of FP. You should start over from the beginning, and check everything each step of the way. So begin by creating the header, save the page, and check to make sure the header works. Then continue on until you finish it.

He's using Expressions Bobby, not FP. Either way some code will have to be learned.

you also need to resize your top banner again from the original as it looks bad when it's resized through the html (top-banner)

And in the rest of the page? It's the left hand vertical nav that's encroaching on the content - or was unless he's changed it. ( Resolution 1280x1024 )

The Firefox bug only relates to CSS positioning using negative margins and clearing floats, none of which is used in this site. (It doesn't affect my sites either - phew!) More information here.

And this is why no WYSIWYG design app, not just Expressions is ever going to be 100% perfect, because unless you know at least the basics of coding, you don't know what's going on under the hood to be able to fix it when it goes wrong, and that's before you start with the various browser bugs. As WYSIWYG goes, Expressions is pretty damned good - only 11 HTML errors on your home page, and most of them are missed alt attributes, and 1 CSS error. (And by the way, I'm most definitely not a M$ fan)

A really good place to learn the basics (and more should you wish) is HTMLdog.

HTML dog is excellent - number one on my list of tutorials. Learning the markup is the best solution - possibly if you're in a hurry (and if this is going to be your only site) you could combine this solution with having a look at good templates for real estate - there's loads of them around. With a little knowledge of markup and a snazzy pre-made template you might get a faster start than trying to do it from scratch. Obviously you'd really need to be careful about the template you chose if you went that route as there are a lot of very poor templates around. You'd want something that works cross browser, preferably CSS (as it's more likely to be coded to standards although it's no guarantee). Here's a site Linky Now I'm not actually recommending these templates - haven't had a close look at them, but it's an example anyway! You'd want to be careful though as WYSIWYGs have a tendency to "add stuff" to coded pages whether you like it or not!!
